Nubra Valley To Pangong Lake Road Trip

February 15, 2023

Planning to visit Nubra Valley to Pangong Lake in Ladakh? Here are the best things you can do to make your trip a memorable one.

The distance between Nubra Valley and Pangong Lake is roughly 220 Km.

There are two routes that you can take to reach Pangong Lake.

1. Shayok Route

Until 2010, it was very difficult to travel on this road, as it was not properly made. However, it has changed now. It is the easiest route now and time-saving as well. Though, you will still find some broken patches and water crossings, but that just adds up to the adventure. This route generally takes 6-7 hours to reach Pangong lake.

2. Wari La Route

The USP of this route is that you will cross two high altitude passes on your way, which are, Wari La and Chang La. The terrain is difficult and so is the driving. However, this route is a  more scenic and the drive can even be “aesthetic” in between. Still, this route is comparatively  difficult and takes longer than the Shayok Route to reach Pangong Lake.

While you are in Nubra Valley, here are few things you can do:

1. Visit the Beautiful Diskit Monastery

You must have seen pictures of this beautiful Monastery. The main attraction of the same is the 32 Metres tall statue of Maitreya Buddha. The statue gives the monastery a typical Buddhist look and it is surrounded by the never ending majestic landscapes of Nubra Valley. It’s a must-visit during your visit to Nubra Valley.

2. Visit the Hot Springs of Panamik

As daring as it sounds to go into a hot spring in such a cold place, it’s actually a very good way to relax your body. The Panamik village is known for its mesmerising hot springs. The sulphur rich hot spring is known to heal skin diseases. Besides the medical advantages, the hot springs are a good way to just relax and enjoy the breathtaking views of Nubra Valley.

After you reach Pangong Lake via your road trip from Nubra Valley, here’s what you can do in Pangong Lake:

1. Photography

Pangong Lake is always known for its beautiful, scenic and aesthetic views. It is for sure one of those places where you can just take out your camera or smartphone and start clicking pictures. Every corner of the area is photogenic. Be it mountains, the sky, the valley or the lake itself, the place signifies beauty.

2. Visit the 3 Idiots Point

You have probably seen the movie 3 Idiots. Pangong Lake attracted a lot of tourists after they saw the last scene of the movie which was shot in Pangong Lake. The point still has the props which were used in the very popular movie “3 Idiots”. You can visit there to get a shot of the same.

These are few things that you can do on your upcoming trip to Ladakh. Please keep in mind to only use 4*4 vehicle as the roads can get tricky. If you are going on a bike, it is advised to ride solo and put as less weight on the bike as you can. The ideal choice can be the popular Royal Enfield.
